Prof. Chun-Chieh Wu received his B.S. degree from the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, National Taiwan University in 1986, then received his Ph. D. from the Department of Earth, Atmospheric & Planetary Sciences, Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1993. Prof. Wu is currently the Chair Professor in Department of Atmospheric Sciences, College of Science, National Taiwan University (NTU). Prof. Wu’s research has ranged over a wide variety of topics in tropical cyclone (TC) dynamics, including TC motion, TC intensity, TC rainfall, concentric eyewall, targeted observation, TC-ocean interaction, and TC-terrain interaction. In particular, Prof. Wu has been highly recognized for his pioneering work in leading the DOTSTAR (Dropwindsonde Observations for Typhoon Surveillance near the TAiwan Region) program during 2003-2013. Prof. Wu has published more than 100 SCI peer-reviewed papers, with more than 10000 citations. Prof. Wu worked as a visiting scientist (visiting Fellow) at Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory, NOAA/Princeton University during 1993-1995 (2004). Prof. Wu was appointed as a visiting professor (adjunct senior research scientist) at Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (Lamont–Doherty Earth Observatory), Columbia University during 2018-2019. Prof. Wu served as the member of the Committee of Tropical Meteorology and Tropical Cyclones of American Meteorological Society (AMS) during 2012-2017, Secretary General of Asia Oceania Geoscience Society (AOGS) during 2013-2019, and Editor of the Journal of Atmospheric Sciences, AMS during 2013-2018. In 2013, Prof. Wu received the Academic Award of Education, Taiwan. In 2014, Prof. Wu received the Editor’s Award of the Journal of Atmospheric Sciences, AMS.
